Orient, Marigot, and Maho in one day is it possible?

Recommended Posts

Next month when we are in St. Martin we have a sub-compact booked with Avis for $44 for the day using the Hilton Honors discount. Avis is just outside the port facilities. Hertz is at the port and will take the AAA discount. Either of these can be reserved through their US web sites. Some on CC will warn you that these are local independent operators working under the respective brands; but heck I had an independent operator last week in Missouri when renting from Budget.

AWESOME info, thank you!

We were at Orient beach about 10 days ago and I was highly disappointed in the beach, for us it was a complete waste of our time. We shared a van from the cruise dock with a bunch of other tourists.. I think it was $8 or $6 pp one way.

Once we got to Orient, the waves were rough and the beach is not that wide either and full of sea grass, and the ocean was full of sea grass also, just awfull. It also looked like a very commercialised beach. We stayed about 10 mins and did a bit of walking on the beach, hoping that it will get better, but the longer we were there the less we liked it.

I felt sorry for a whole bus load of cruise ship guest arriving as we were leaving, these poor souls paid a lot of money for a very windy, open beach that is not secluded from the winds and the waves. I will never go back there again on a cruise stop.

In hindsight it was a complete waste of our time as in my opinion its totally over rated. Luckily we found a taxi very quickly and for $20 total, a van took the 2 of us to Marigot where we went for the walk up the many steps to the Old Fort. A much nicer adventure for us and after some shopping in Marigot, we went to Maho beach to see the planes.

I know Maho did not get raving reviews on here, but in my opinion now after seeing Orient and Maho, I think Maho beach is much nicer than Orient.

You can check the flight schedule for SXM on the website flightstats dot com.. put in the airport code SXM and click on arrivals for the day you will be there. We were in St Maarten on a Friday, so the week before on the friday I checked that website and got all the arriving planes and their arrival times. It was very helpful.

We took a tour with Joyce Prince and she took us wherever we wanted to go. She has a schedule that she will do if you don't have suggestions. We wanted to go to a pastry shop, Maho to see the planes and get the overall flavor of the island, seeing both the Dutch and French sides. Joyce was great. She accomplished all that we asked and more.
