Nassau next Friday - what to do?

I've been here once before, back in 2003, but I hardly remember anything other than going snorkeling and getting sun burned to the point it ruined the rest of my cruise.

I'm going back next week, this time with my wife, 12yr old, and 2 yr old. We just want to hang out and do our own thing. Maybe a beach, but more importantly, seeing the Atlantis facility. We're not interested in the water park part of it, but rather the aquarium portion. Can we just take a taxi or ferry to it, buy admission tix, and see it that way, or do we have to do an excursion for it?

Also, what's the best beach to visit if we opt out of the Atlantis gig?

TIA.

Ended up taking a taxi to Sheraton Cable Beach for the day. ($30USD one-way including tip) $99 for a NICE room on the ground floor, just by the swimming pool. Kids had a blast, and the weather was perfect. This resort is absolutely fantastic! Highly recommended!
