Motion on Independence of the Seas in July

Recommended Posts

Hi there Rolosmum

All I can offer on that one is that I have sailed IOTS in September,October and November across the Bay of Biscay and there were no problems. That time of the year it should be worse than the summer months in that part of the ocean.

Hope you booke and enjoy - if you haven't already

Was on Indy in May and coming back the Bay of Biscay was rough and as the captain said there was motion on the ocean! I took sturgeron tablets and was fine but there were quite a few people feeling sick.If you take tablets before you sail and on the way back once you hit the Atlantic youll be fine. the first time we were on her we had no problems at all. Enjoy your trip youll have a great time.

We were on the 28th May sailing out of Southampton, and the Bay of Biscay was fine both ways... Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the Med! The Gulf of Lion caught even the Captain by surprise... they predicted moderate to rough waves, but by the end of the day there were (rumours of) 40 foot waves, and they locked all the doors to the outside, including all stateroom balconies (yes, we tried :o )

They put the bags of sick bags over the handrails in all the stairwells, and we saw a few people (mainly children to be honest) looking very queasy. That being said, all the sick bags had been taken by the end of the night, so perhaps more were suffering than was obvious...

The show in the theatre was interesting, with the orchestra all holding onto their seats/instruments occasionally, and walking on stairs was entertaining, one second feeling like you're floating on air, and the next being pressed into the stairs!

We likened it to being on a rollercoaster, and had a great time! :D

All that being said, I think July is more "stable" time of year to travel, and all the crew told us that what we'd experienced was very unusual. We were very unlucky with the weather generally, with most days being overcast and cool or drizzly, so I think we were just very unfortunate.

Our Gulf of Lion adventure aside, we barely noticed the movement, and accustomed to the slight movement very quickly.

If you're concerned about seasickness, it's definitely worth visiting your doctor before you travel.

We did say when we got back that we were actually pleased it had been rough on one day, we'd have felt slightly short changed if we'd spent 14 days on the ocean and not even felt it! :)
