bandit and babycakes Posted July 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2011 Does anyone have current pics of their helicopter glacier landing in Skaway 2011? Would love to see them. Still deciding on this excursion. Other photos look like you land and walk around on brown ground not snow and ice.
Cruiser304958 Posted July 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2011 If you go early in the season you'll see mostly snow. As the summer progresses the ice appears. Towards the end of the summer in late August, lots of the gravel that the glaciers carry is visible and the helicopters often land on those areas to make it easier for people to walk (but there's still lots of ice around you). Yes, it's work, but if no one responds immediately with a link to theirs, try the review area.Toward the right on the banner, see Member reviews. chinacat62 Posted July 5, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2011 I don't have pics from Skagway. But if you are considering a glacier excursion from Juneau as well, these are from our landing on Herbert Glacier last month: http://north2alaska-chinacat.blogspot.com/2011/06/walking-on-ice.html It was awesome, and I highly recommend doing one of these if you can budget it.
