grumpytilicruise Posted July 25, 2011 #381 Share Posted July 25, 2011 The discovery ship is what our church sails over to freeport on for the mission trips. The church members have also told me that it is the ship that some of the bahamians come to the states to get certain supplies and take back to the bahamas with them. Not sure how often they do this but our church goes twice a year for a week at a time.
CharlesCutiePie Posted July 26, 2011 #382 Share Posted July 26, 2011 Really love reading your review. This January my DH and I plus another couple will be on Conquest going out of New Orleans. We are all so excited. My DH and I went on Triump this last February doing the same stops you did. My favorite port was Key West. I absolutely loved it. I had so much fun going around town and shopping. I even convinced my hubby to go to the butterfly observatory with me. I had a butterfly land on my arm and stay there through the whole walk through. I cannot wait to see your Key West pictures!

texnewbie Posted July 27, 2011 Author #391 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Key West... Cruise on down the A1A... Yes, we're finally here.... Although we did sleep in and missed Sail in.... Next time I'll set my alarm... Although I didn't bring one... Yes we have a phone... I'm so excited... I got up, got our cell phones out and yes turned them on.... Now were in port and yes he didn't dock Port side, so we had the view of the little island across from Port. Dang is... I so wanted to sit on my balcony and just stare at Key West... I woke the princess and told her to put on a pair of shorts and we hurried up to Deck 12 and out Starbourd side so she could see Key West for the first time... She Loved it... Back to our room... So we turned our phones on and we had many txt's from many friends... Everyone knew we would be in Key West today... I called my hubby and talked to him... Rae called her dad and we both talked to him tooo. Then we called Brady and Eric... Although we were really close to Eric... Ok not real close but closer then Texas and Orlando... I had hoped that maybe we could fly him down for the day or he meet us for the day, but airfare to Key West was so expensive and driving would take forever, so needless to say Rae was very upset that he could just come over to where we were... Although I really think she thought I was going to surprise her with him here... but it just didn't work out... So after having our phones for awhile, it was time to hit Key West.... Down we went... Love docking right there in town... It's so cool to get off the ship and there's the city... Mallory Square... Rearranging my pool bag... I had the towels on top... More to come... texnewbie Posted July 27, 2011 Author #393 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Key West Cruise on down the A1A... So happy to be here.... So one of the first shops that we hit was Ron Jon's... We needed a bathroom - they had one... and bought her dad a Ron Jon shirt... He loves RJ... Sloppy Joes... The reason Rae is standing right there is because when I was there in 2002, that is where I sat... So I took this picture for my to favorite cousins... Thanks for taking me to Key West... Duval Street.... here we come... It was really empty... but it was like 10:00ish.. Margarittaville.... Wasted away again in Margarittaville... Time to shop first... We got T-shirts and Puppy collars and a shot glass... Good buy. We wondered up and down Duval Street - in and out of lots of stores... Expecially the ones with swim suits and purses... Although Rae was a really big hunt for Toe Rings... Toe Rings???? Can't find them anywhere... Not very popular anymore... We did find the really great store or really fabulous gallery... It's that guy that is on the weather channel from Australia... his work was really awesome... Time to eat... We didn't eat any breakfast this morning and I knew that if we didn't hit Margarittaville early we would have a hard time getting a table... and I didn't want Rae to miss eating there... It's so much fun... So we headed back to Margarittaville and it had just opened about 15 minutes before we got there and we were the 4th group to be seated... More pictures to come... texnewbie Posted July 27, 2011 Author #398 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Key West... Cruise on down to A1A!!! After lunch we decided that we would head to the beach... We knew we didn't have much time in Key West and we had to have our "Toes in the sand" picture... I did a little research and decided that we would just catch a taxi over to Fort Zachery Taylor Beach... I knew it wasn't to far from port but knew we could hang out there for a couple of hours then head back to the ship... So we caught a taxi here.... The taxi driver was really nice, we tipped him and he gave us his card so we could call him for him to pick us back up... We entered Fort Zackery Taylor and on around to the beach.... We were so excited... Again, we love the beach it's our favorite place to be besides Disney... We headed down to the busy beach area and found us to spots to sit... We decided we wouldn't get a beach chairs at $30.00 a pop... We could get another Shirt for that price... This is what the beach looked like... Really pretty - White sand - AND lots and lots of rocks... Another thing... Now I love hot weather... Love it... today in Abilene it was a 104 - 46th day this summer over a 100... and really it hasn't bothered me much... But when we put our towels down on that rocky sand... and we decided to put our sun screen on and lay out, I thought we were going to melt.... It was so hot and humid... Now in West Texas we don't have humidity, we just have a really dry heat. So it was really warm... So after sitting in the sun for a few minutes I decided to get in the water... So off to the water I went, and I took 2 steps and bam there were rocks down there... Rocks that didn't feel really great on my sweet little feet... Hahaha.. It hurt!!!! So I kind of picked my feet up and tried to float out a little but I still had to come back across those rocks... OUCH!!!! They hurt... So, I told Rae to come here and lets do our "Toe's in the sand picture" More pictures to come.. Carolyn
texnewbie Posted July 27, 2011 Author #399 Share Posted July 27, 2011 I LOVE your dress/cover up! Where did you get it???? Thank you... I got it in Disney World.. Last April... some lady in Roxy - In Key West thought I had gotten it there and I said I got it in Disney see it has hidden Mickey's on it... And she was like really - Oh I see them!! - How cute.... texnewbie Posted July 27, 2011 Author #400 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Key West!!!! Cruise on down the A1A!!! So after took our "Toe's in the Sand" picture a lady took ours for us.. Then Rae took this... She's so silly... Then I made her walk out into the water.. "Mom I don't want to get all wet... I don't want to walk around Key West with a wet swim suit" "but you have toooo" It's mandatory.... Hahaha.. This is her finding the rocks... Needless to say, she didn't go in very far... I'm guess where those people are way out, there are no rocks out there... You really needed water shoes here... So if you plan on stopping here on your next trip - take water shoes... or go somewhere else... More pictures..
