Duty free alcohol in St thomas,

Hey guys just a quick questiond to ask about duty free, we are allowed 9 liters to return back to OZ and ive read here on these boards that you can only take 1 liter back to the US except if you buy it from USVI you can bring back more. Well that is were we are going so is it correct that we can buy 4 liters each in st thomas and an extra liter if its made on the Island. And can someone tell me the cost of a liter bottle of alcohol approx at st thomas so i can compare it to prices back here to see if it is worth it, and i heard that in st thomas they will wrap it and put it in special boxes so it can safely be checked in as baggage on the plane home is this correct anyone here done this. thanks guys.:)
