agabbymama Posted July 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2011 This website might help you, it does give ideas for hotels, but lots of other info too. There are a number of hotels at/or close to Piazzale Roma, the transportation hub of Venice. But be prepared, Venice and affordable are not necessarily two words I would use together. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/

Queenzena Posted July 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2011 We were there 10 days ago and stayed at the Hotel Arlecchino right near Piazzale Roma. No stress, only one bridge to schlep your luggage, great staff, nice breakfast. I would most certyainly recommend this property pre or post-cruise! Bet & Peg Posted July 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2011 We also stayed in the hotel Arlecchino - in 2008 - and found it very, very nice! We stayed there one night pre-cruise. We arrived by bus from the aiport and it was just a very short walk - one bridge - to the hotel. 2008 was before the people mover so we had to take a shuttle bus to the dock. But now, you should be able to take the people mover (heard its only 1 euro) to the Piazzale Roma and then short walk to the hotel - just like Queenzena said. The hotel is also very convenient to get the vaporetto down the Grand Canal to see "everything"! Walking, without luggage, is also very easy from that area. To get to the airport, the bus leaves from the Piazzale Roma so again very convenient. Breakfast was also very good. Have a great cruise and a fantastic visit to my favorite city!!! irenez Posted July 20, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted July 20, 2011 I checked all the links and there is not much available. My father tells me to stay in the Lido area and take a boat on the canal to get the sights... should I consider it?
dacook Posted July 20, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2011 This is a little hotel/Inn on a small canal. They have rooms large enough for all of you to share one room. We stayed there for a week and it is perfect. Take a water taxi from the ship to the hotel! This place is so cute! It has a great courtyard in the back to enjoy the breakfast they provide. Even has grass, in Venice! We found this because of a recommendation of Rick Steves. In the morning you wake to a fruit/veggie barge in front of the hotel selling to the locals! ATM next door! Gelato next door! Air Conditioned! Very reasonable!
helencw Posted July 20, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Irene, you could try this website http://www.hotelscombined.com/ You can input your dates, select the number of stars, number of rooms, number of people, price range, location from center. You then get a long list of available hotels which you could sort by price, distance to the center, or popularity. If you click on the price, you get a list of several booking web sites with various prices. On the upper right there is a choice for map view, so you could select a hotel in your preferred location. I put in your dates, and I got a lot of available hotels in Venice itself. If you store luggage at Piazzale Roma, you have more freedom to walk or take the vaporetto to your hotel, and then on the next day you could pick up your luggage and take the airport bus from Piazzale Roma. Best wishes for a great trip!
