spikecat Posted July 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Could someone tell me where the Sea Princess docks in Victoria on it's 10 day Alaska cruise? Is it near town and is local transportation close by? Thanks
cdngrl Posted July 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2011 it docks at ogden point. a good 20 minute walk to downtown/ touristy areas. (it would take me longer. i wouldn't walk it, but i have short legs and are lazy). there are also taxis at the pier that can take you to the inner harbour government street area (touristy area, empress hotel/ bc museum). you are in the james bay neighbourhood of victoria and there will be some city busses but sorry, i have no idea of their routes or their stops. cruisehappi Posted July 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Yep, it's Ogden Point. It was a fairly easy walk, but there were taxis and buses at the dock waiting (buses were unrelated to Princess). I believe the sign said something about the roundtrip fare, pay as you get on, and you have a ticket allowing you to come back. I think they dropped off in the shopping area. billet Posted July 24, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2011 The walk is a level walk to downtown and if you follow the coastal path you can take in the sights before arriving at the harbour in about 30 mins (plus stops such as Fisherman's Wharf for fish and chips at Barbs). If you follow the road it is about 20 mins as cdngrl says. (Hi cdngrl long time no speak!) Maps are available as you exit the terminal. Cruise Victoria has buses shuttling passengers downtown. They can drop you at the harbour outside the Empress Hotel or on Government Street for shopping. http://www.cvscruisevictoria.com/cruiseship_shuttle.html Butchart Gardens is about 45 minutes drive away from downtown if you are thinking of visiting. There are lots of methods of getting there - shore excursion, bus or taxi.
c-to-sea Posted July 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Here is a thread that gives 2 maps of the route from Ogden Point to downtown. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=29714894&highlight=victoria+map#post29714894
Black_Sheep Posted July 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2011 Just got back from AK on the Golden. Walking to downtown was about 1.2 mi. Good 20-30 min walk. When we got off the ship there were PLENTY of cabs, pedi-cabs, etc. It seemed to me like you had to get off the ship relatively early to catch 'em, though. Putterdude Posted July 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2011 A cab fare from Ogden Point to downtown will run about $8.50 each way and the CVS Cruise Victoria shuttle charges $7.50pp return. Transit is available just outside the terminal gates for $2.50...$1.65 if over 65 but CDN funds only.
ActiveTraveler Posted July 25, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2011 When you guys list dollar amounts, are you citing U.S. or Canadian money?
Putterdude Posted July 25, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2011 CVS Cruise Victoria is either. Cab's will take US$ at par...at least I was so advised by Blue Bird Cabs last night. Transit is $CDN only please.
captainron Posted July 25, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2011 When you guys list dollar amounts, are you citing U.S. or Canadian money? If there's a price quoted it'll be in Canadian Dollars as you are in Canada after all. If you want to pay for something in USD (as in a store while shopping) it will cost you more than the Canadian price if you want to pay in USD given that the CAD is worth more than the USD. For transportation such as local transit you will be required to pay exact change for the trip in CAD. Ciao for now!!!
cdngrl Posted July 25, 2011 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2011 you can pay more on the bus, but you won't get change! and hi billet, your bug still makes me crazy!
