jediwebdude Posted July 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2011 We cruise (Carnival Triumph) in 7 weeks and are trying to determine whether or not we have to book an excursion for Cozumel. Based on various island maps, it appears that we can just walk off the boat and go shopping in the immediate vicinity of the ship port. Then grab a taxi and hit a nearby beach, or maybe just walk to a nearby beach. We = me, wife, 3 sons ages 4, 10, and 14.
flounder315 Posted July 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2011 There is a bunch of stores right at the pier for shopping. We have always taken a cab to Chankanaab National Park $10 bucks. There is a shallow water lagoon for the little ones. When my son was 5 years old, he spent hours snorkeling and looking for sealife in the rocks around the outside edge. The snorkeling in the open ocean is awesome for everyone else. $20 or so per person entry fee at the gate.
k2excursion Posted July 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Yes, just grab a cab for a beach of your choosing. There are plenty of good ones to choose from. I really loved both Chankanaab and Paradise Beach. Paradise has water toys in the water to climb on, which is great for kids and big kids. $2 beach chair, $12 for water toys access, and they do expect adults to spend around $10 on food/drink. With almost any option, you'll come out cheaper than going through Carnival.
jediwebdude Posted August 2, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted August 2, 2011 1st) Carnival Celebration Oct 2001 4 days Cozumel (with 3 girlfriends, thanks to 9/11/2001 hubby & kids backed out) Thanks for the response. Saw this in your signature. Wife and I were on that same cruise (it was our first and last cruise). Left from Galveston, but I thought we'd never get on the boat because of the really long line for screening. We had to discard fingernail clippers and small pocket knives, all because of 9/11. Coast Guard boats surrounded the ship and escorted the Celebration to sea.
jarand Posted August 2, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2011 When do you go? We are going in October with our granddaughters, ages 4 & 6. We've been looking at the dolphin discovery programs in Chankanaab Park. With early booking discount, about $60-$80 pp depending on which activity you choose (booking direct with Dolphin Discovery, not Carnival). This includes entry into Chankanaab Park (usually $14-$20), so you can spend the rest of the day snorkeling, seeing the sea lions, or whatever. Colorado Kat Posted August 7, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Please be aware that there are 2 piers in Cozumel. One very close to the center of town (all walkable), and one further outside town (really need a taxi).
