Malaria?

Please give your opinion on whether to get vaccines for malaria and/or other diseases...we are going to the Lamanai ruins which are in the jungle area

I asked my doc about the malaria treatment because I was going to do the cave tubing. He said that the treatment has many side effects and that the side effects may outweigh the benefits since I would only be there for an excursion for the day. He suggested that I use a insect repellent with DEET and I should be OK. He said that the camping stores have repellent with different strengths of DEET. After I talked to him, I did some reading about the side effects and agreed with what he said... so I'm going to go with the repellent route and thin long sleeves....

 

You might want to ask your doc... particularly if you have other medical issues.
