RJLEXUS2011 Posted August 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2011 Hi all, just had a thought. We are booked on FOS March2012 and I was wondering if it wold be a good idea to bring our own snorkle gear onto the ship to use at various beaches. Has anyone done this before? Momis2 Posted August 20, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2011 oops misspelled Snorkel We bring our own masks and snorkels. This way we know that the masks fit and who had the mouthpiece in their mouth last. Rent fins. They take up too much room in our luggage.:D
gerryl12 Posted August 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2011 Always bring our own mask and snorkel, and usually bring shortie fins in our carry-on. Sometimes we rent fins. We do not check bags, if it doesn't fit in the carry-on or small pack then we don't need it.
BWDscotty Posted August 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2011 Definitely bring your own mask and snorkel. Rent fins if you must. There are some nice options for smaller, travel fins. Aqualung Hot shots fit in a carry-on and are very comfortable.
Islandbear Posted August 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We always travel with our gear. It allows us to snorkel when ever and where ever we want.
WillieD13 Posted August 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2011 We always take our own (they fit, and haven't been in who knows whose mouth), including my full size fins. I just lay them flat in the suitcase first, and I know they fit my feet.
lvcruzers Posted August 31, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2011 We always bring our own gear. Fins too. We bought a wheeling duffel bag with a shoe compartment on the bottom. Our mask & fins fit great with plenty of room for shoes. We love not having to worry about someone else's germs.
RJLEXUS2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted September 1, 2011 Thanx all for your responces! Looks like I will be shopping for gear for 4.
stresssolutions Posted September 2, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 2, 2011 we take ours too, partly because of reasons above, but also partly due to mask Rx...I can't see very well w/o my glasses, and my mask is great. got my flips from a dive shop, used....was their rental equipment. If you are new to snorkel, you may want to rent ship/excursion eqpt first, make sure you like it.
