We walked a few blocks from the port and took a public bus to Monkey Beach. The bus driver will direct you. You step off the bus, walk through a side alley next to a restaurant/bar and you are on the beach. Food and drinks are excellent and casual outside seating with lots of locals if you get hungry (bathroom and outside shower too). You can rent a chair or just leave your towel on the beach (we did) or pay someone a few dollars to watch it. Wait for about an hour and all of the cruise ship tours will arrive by boat. Just swim out and you'll see plenty of turtles. Took the bus back. Locals on bus VERY friendly and eager to talk. Easy and cheap day.
