Restaurants near Embassy Suites Westshore

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are sailing on the Inspiration on 9/24 and staying at the Embassy Suites Westshore the night before. Are there any good non-chain restaurants near there that you would recommend? Or is there anywhere to eat where you can sit outside and see the water?

Also, does anyone know if there is any place to pick up supplies of the rum-runner filling variety within walking distance?

Thanks so much!

OP, you didn't say if you are going to have a car or not. Westshore is just to the other side of TIA near I-275 so not much withing walking distance as far as restaurants on the water. If you have a car or want to pay a few $ for a taxi, head to the Rocky Point area, there are a few restaurants there on the water. Rocky Point is just to the opposite side of TIA.

Here are a few non-chain restaurants that I can think of:

The Rusty Pelican http://tampa.therustypelican.com/rustypelicantampa/

Crabby Bills, They do have a few CB locations in the TB area but it is not a national chain. http://www.crabbybills.com/RPPage.html

Bahama Breeze, on the water, nice atmosphere and an Island style band, but still considered a chain restaurant. http://www.bahamabreeze.com/locations/?restaurantid=3004

Now, not on the water but very close to the Westshore area is the International Plaza Mall. There are several restaruants and shops

As far a shopping for last minute items, there is a Walgreens on the corner of Westshore Blvd. and Kennedy Blvd. This is very close to you hotel.

Good luck to you and have a great time.

Assuming you do not have a car:

*there is a small, locally owned liquor store a couple of blocks away; within walking distance assuming you don't have mobility issues (about 1/4 mile or so each way). Exit hotel to Westshore Blvd, turn south (left); walk down a couple of blocks to Kennedy; turn left, it'll be down a 1/2 block on your left. Lazzara Family Liquors.

*there is no waterside dining spot within walking distance

*there's a nice mall right across the street, with a number of good dining options - but most of the restaurants there (and in the immediate area of the hotel) are of the chain variety.

On the above post, Whisky Joes is in the Rocky Point area as well.

You can't go wrong with any of the restaurants, they are all pretty good.

Thanks! To answer a previous question, no car. But we could take a taxi somewhere if it was supposed to be really good! We're just excited to go on an adults only trip! We're open to pretty much anything, we just don't want to feel like we're stuck in the burbs like home. (which, I understand is difficult at an airport hotel!)

If you don't mind spending some $, Berns is tremendous. You'd have to take a cab, it's 4 or 5 miles away. It is one of America's great steakhouses, and has a winelist that is as good as anywhere in the world.

In the same general area (South Howard Ave, or SoHo) there are a number of very good restaurants with varying price ranges & differing food styles - ranging from pub grub to upscale.
