cruiseaddict95 Posted September 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Hi, DH and I are going to Europe for the first time and one of the ports is Villefranche, France. We want to know how do we get to Nice from the port by bus. I read that you take the #100 bus there but I don't know where. If anyone could give us directions to get to Nice from the ship I would truly appreicate it. Thanks:)
rlse9 Posted September 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2011 The bus stop is easy to get to, I'm guessing someone here will post more detailed directions but basically you walk out of the front of the cruise terminal and there's a sign for the bus stop pointing to the left. You'll go uphill a ways and eventually come to a street that intersects with the main road going through Villafranche and has a stoplight at the intersection. Walk t the intersection and cross the street, the bus stop is less than a block to your left. The bus ends at the bus station in Nice which is where we usually got off. Again, I'm guessing someone else can give better directions but it's really pretty easy and as long as you're heading in the right general direction it'd be pretty hard to get lost. newlifeca Posted September 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Yes, we took that bus from Villefrance to Nice. We didn't have a map, we just worked our way up to the main road and caught the bus. But, as mentioned in the previous post, someone on this forum has posted more detailed directions. scratchy Posted September 15, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2011 when you get off the boat that takes you to town, there is a building with a tourist help center. you can ask them for a nice handy map of town. i just got back this past weekend so my memory is already warbled from all the ports. if i remember correctly, you get out of the tourist center shack then cross the street. there were plenty of tourist trap booths. walk through the booths then go up the ramp on the hill that's to your left. you should see hoards of other cruisers doing the same. we lost the pack we were following and got confused so we had to sort this out on our own. so go up the ramp on the hill. look to your right and you will see 2 paths. go to the one on the left. go up that hill until you get to the first street. make a left. you'll walk a few blocks and see a dead end with lots of stairs. you are going to hit a park. walk up that hill until you get to a busy street. cross the street and stand at the bus stop that's by a pharmacy. we had 2 bus workers standing at the stop to help us so we were very thankful. just hop on the #100 bus and stay til the last stop. it's somewhat a very quick drive if i remember correctly. there was a orange shack across the street from the bus stop that was supposed to help tourists but the lady did not look friendly at all and didn't appear to speak any english. we wandered around trying to get the hoho bus and got lost. all you need to do is get off the bus. the last stop is by a park. walk through the park all the way til you hit the water. the hoho bus' first stop is near the water to your left. there's a small sandwich board by the 1st stop. if i remember correctly it was 20 euros. if you want to find the tourist center, you just need to walk through the park til you hit the water and make a right. it's not on the side of the street by the water but the other side. i believe there was a casino right next to it. the stinkin tourist center signs were so confusing that we were walking in circles trying to find it. they have very clean toilets in the park that you pay for if you need to use it on your way to the tourist center or the hoho bus. for the return, we just took the bus at the same stop we got off on. the tourist center lady told us to take it at the port but we wanted to make sure we had a seat so we got on the first stop. Eileen G Posted September 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2011 You can also take the #81 bus which is a local bus so not as crowded. You catch it at the same bus stop and it runs the same route. It lets you off at the main bus terminal in Nice which is right across the street from Old Town. scotslizzy Posted September 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2011 We are just back from our cruise and wanted to get the 100 bus going in the opposite direction to Monaco . As we had dione this before in October we had no problem locating the bust stops etc . But we never made it onto the bus as they all flew past us fully loaded with passengers (this was on the 6th Sept ) . We ended up in a taxi to Eze (so glad we did this ) but never did make it to Monaco . I definatley think that the time of year had a bearing on this and will learn my lesson to book a private tour to cover all my places of interest next tme round . Even getting a taxi was problematic as there were not that many of them to be had .For interest 3 of us were charged 40 euros for the trip to Eze . Bus fare would have been 1 Euro!
