hillkris Posted March 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2005 Hello, my boyfriend and I will be in Belize in April and trying to find a dive operation that offeres discovery scuba courses. We both have dived previously but are not certified (procrastination, and regretting it now!). Is anyone aware of any operators who offer discovery courses? We can't seem to find any. Also, Royal caribbean offers a "Barrier Reef w/Equipment" and it doesn't say anything about being certified, but I'm nervous to book in case it is a mis-statement. All of their other explorations are clearly marked if certification is needed, and if not it is usually called "Discovery".
sea-jay Posted March 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2005 Most dive tours require you to be certified and have had a dive within the last two years. I notice that RCCL does require this for two of their other tours but the tour description does not specifically require it for the dive you mention. I suggest you contact them before signing up. You may want to check out this site. http://www.belieze.com Scroll down to "Diving Belieze" and you will get a listing of all the dive operations there. Some of them are listed below. You may want to contact them directly. http://www.seasportsbelize.com/welcome.html http://www.slickrock.com/scuba.htm http://www.nealwatson.com/Belize.html I will be there in May but am certified and will be doing one of the ships tours. Hope you enjoy your cruise whatever you decide to do.
cindybythebeach Posted March 31, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2005 We had booked discover scuba through coral breeze last June, but the seas were so rough that the tendering took a very long time. They tendered those with ships tours first, then everyone else. The first people with non ship tours were almost 3 hours late getting off the ship. As a result we missed our private discover scuba tour, even though we had booked it for more than 2 hours after the ship arrived in Belize. Keep this in mind at tender ports. We did receive a full refund.
