cpristash Posted April 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Any input on booking the catamarand ride/Dunns River Falls excursion through the ship or is it better to book independently online...We are sailing on the Century Next Spring Break! rebeljohn Posted April 27, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2004 We took a cab to Dunns river on our own. Much cheaper than the ships tour. Beware the vendors after you leave the falls. They are VERY pushy. Rare tofubeast Posted April 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2004 We took the Century a year ago. IHIGHLY recommend doing Dunn River falls not through the ship. On the port o' call boards on here, I learned about a tour guide named Peat Taylor. You can find contact info for him on there or do a google search. He took us with some other cruisers to the falls. We were the first ones there! It was awesome cuz it was not crowded until we were leaving (as the cruise tours started to arrive). Then he took us on a tour and we got to see many neat things. He also took us back to the ship for lunch and then picked us up to take us downtown for afternoon shopping.. and then brought us back to the ship. He was amazing. I had read so many good things about him. He was one of the highlights of our trip! He was MUCH cheaper than the cruise trip as well and way less people!! trcori Posted April 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2004 Count us among the Peat fans. We took his tour during our 3/03 Century cruise. That was the highlight of the week, and we enjoyed it so much that if we found ourselves stopping in Ocho Rios again, we would likely do the same thing. As Tofubeast mentions, Peat offers the option of dropping you off for lunch after the morning's tour, then picking you up for beach or shopping, all included in the same flat fee. We decided not to go out again after lunch on board but still felt we had gotten way more than our money's worth, with the falls (we swam at the beach at the bottom of the falls since we had no interest in climbing them), Fern Gully, and the neighborhoods. Peat was not only a jovial character in general, he very patiently answered the 6-zillion questions answered by our then-7-year-old son, who sat next to him up in front of the shuttle bus. TinLemon Posted April 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2004 We also just took a cab to Dunns River Falls and told the cab driver when to come pick us back up. When we got to the falls we opted to skip going up the "guided" tour.. you know... where you grab someones hand in front of you and follow some local up the falls. Instead... we just shuffled up our own route and splashed around at each little pool of water... much more fun, and we didn't have to tip at the end. SassyGirl Posted April 29, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2004 We also can vouch for Pete. We went on a tour with him in 2002 and he was reasonable, very friendly and overall a really great tour guide. SassyGirl
