Beach and Snorkeling

We are cruising on Carnival Victory on Jan 1 on a 7-day southern carribbean.

Wondering what the best/easiest/reliable way to a good beach for the day as well as cost.

Also has anyone been snorkeling here? and how would it compare to the other ports on the cruise (st kitts, barbados, st maarten, st lucia)? If you did go what company/excursion did you use?

Thanks!

Wife and I we take a daysail and snorkel out of Red hook. This way no mob to worry about just two to six plus the two crew members. Easy to get to and back usualy some great snorkeling, good lunch, and some well made drinks. You just do not know what you will see.

Next day sail 16th Jan 2012.

Victory all the way 15thJan sailing

We spent 13 days island hopping in the Virgin Islands this summer. (6 days on St. Thomas). If you want to snorkel from a beach in St. Thomas, I would suggest Sapphire Beach. Coki has alot of fish...but it is very dirty and the area is definately not desirable. A lot of rough characters hanging out on the roads and by the beach. Taxi ride to Sapphire is about $12 per person each way. There are a couple snack stands on the beach at Sapphire Beach. There is a good restaurant at Sapphire Village which is just around the marina. Fantastic Burgers. The beach shop also rents kayaks, paddle boards, sun fish, etc.

We did a day sail through New Horizons out of Sapphire Marina (near red hook). Cost was $60 per person for a full day sail (9am-4pm). This was a fantastic excursions...my teenage sons loved it. The captain and first mate were fabulous. We snorkeled at two spots. Great snorkleing at Christmas Cay. Also included lunch and drinks! The Painkillers and Bushwackers were AWESOME!

Our favorite snorkel spot was Trunk Bay in St. John. You can ferry over to St. John and take a taxi to Trunk Bay. We saw so many schools of fish and many different kinds of fish. There is an underwater trail to follow which tells you all about the types of fish in the area.
