WindsorCruisers Posted October 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2011 I am wondering if it is possible to walk along the coast from Marseille. My DH and I love to walk/hike and doing 3 or 4 hours is common for us. We will walk around the city of Marseille and see some of the sights but would love to walk near the water if possible. moyaroo Posted October 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2011 I would think that the coast outside of Marseille towards Cassis would be nice, but not so easy to get to.
AngloinProvence Posted October 10, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2011 It's safe but not that pleasant -- the Corniche JF Kennedy, the coastal road south out of the Old Port, is very heavily plied by traffic. And as the name "Corniche" suggests, long stretches of it are on a ridge, not at sea-level/ on the beach. I'd recommend taking a bus to one of the closer calanques and picking up a hiking trail from there. More details about Marseille's southern calanques and how to get to them by bus and metro: http://www.marseille-provence.info/marseille-marseilles/what-to-see-tourist-attractions/242-the-calanques-of-southern-marseille.html
