Tipping Cab Stew at end of cruise- You?

i usually see them "blocking" the "exit" door on my way out on tip night.

i've also seen some lock the upstairs doors so that everyone needs to exit in one location.

I love when they do that...but we just smile and wave and say "thanks"...no tip and the only time we tipped was on the DCL Magic...but then again they did not do auto tips at the time and were on the envelope system and the MD actually spent time with us...

doing many magic tricks at our table....telling the kids jokes..and actually he earned the $50 bucks we gave him.....however it was a 9 night trip...and we saw him every night and he spent time with us and the kids and was very helpful...and he actually deserved a tip...

now...why so much?...well, it was our first family cruise in 15 years...and they had the nerve to hand out a paper with the "suggested" or should I say required tips and the envelopes along with the paper...and since we liked what this MD did for our table...we went for it...

That was the only time we did it...because every single MD since them has just come around and asked.."Is everything OK?" and since it is...we do not tip the MD...as we didn't need ..nor did he offer any tableside shows. LOL

I hadn't thought of that..maybe that is the case...but I would like to hear from the poster who uses the MD every night as well

Right. That was me. Unless someone else said that they did as well.

Every night, after dinner, the MD comes around, shows me the menu for the next day, and asks me what I want for dinner the next day. That way, the chef has time to make it gluten-free.

On our recent (and first ever) cruise on the Victory, there were 5 of us in 2 cabins. We had adjoining balconies. We collectively decided to make up 3 envelopes with $25 in each, so $5 per person, to leave for our two MDR waiters (Adi from Indonesia, Alejandro from Peru), and our cabin steward (Emmanuel from Phillipines). They all went out of their way to make our first cruise experience an excellent one!

I found it odd that the cruise director made an announcement prior to dinner on the last night of the cruise and advised that is was 'customary' to tip the Maitre D. None of us felt the desire or need to do that, as we only met the man once. Our waiters and cabin steward, however, gave us wonderfully personalized service, always using our first names. It amazes me how they can do that!

I always give them $20.00 on the first day. I know people disagree with this since the service has not been rendered yet but I have always had exceptional service. I also give the luggage guys a twenty when we pull up and have always had my luggage early. I don't know if it makes a difference but I do it and hope for the best and so far it has worked. I know the luggage handlers do not work for carnival but they have always been very nice to me and have nit hounded me for tips as I have read on the boards. Guess I've been lucky. The hardest job I ever had was being a waitress while in school and I've never forgotten it...maybe that's why I'm tip-happy in the beginning. I figure it's casino money that I won't have to spend and lose, anyway.

We do the same, and we tip $20 at the end to our cabin steward. I think it is worth it, they work so hard and usually do an excellent job.
