Basel, Switzerland

Are you staying at a hotel? If so, they will give you free tickets for the local bus service which will take you all around Basel. They are many museums there. Just go to tripadvisor.com and put in Basel in the search mode. The Manor Department store has a wonderful food court in the basement -- very good food for a small price. This is NOT fast food. They only take Swiss Francs so we put our drinks from Starbucks on our credit card. We asked if they would take Euros and they said no. Basel is a very picturesque city.

If you have time, the trip to Mt. Pilatus is really wonderful.

You can buy a combo ticket at the Swiss RR office in the RR station; It consists of:

Train to Lucerne, Then cross the street to the paddle wheel steamer to the mountain.

Get off the boat and get the cog railway to the mountain top. (45-48 degree incline.)

It is 7000 feet up! The combo ticket includes 10 francs per person for food at the top.

When you are done touring the mountain, take the cable car down(5 min) to the next cable car which will take you down to Lucerne. (25 min) Catch a city bus back to the Lucerne RR station. Catch the train back to Basel. That is all included in the combo ticket. It's an all day trip. We were there in mid-August. It cost us about $200 US per person. The dollar is about 20% better now so you ticket should be less.

Where are you staying? All hotels will give you a free "mobility pass" good for free trans on trams and city buses. What cruise line are you doing? Wanna chat. My email is vietvet@gmail.com
