MidtheNight Posted April 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2004 We'll be cruising Hawaii right about the time the Stanley Cup is decided. My daughter is a hockey fanatic...she's out buying face paint for the Tampa Bay Lightning game we're attending tomorrow night....and wants to know if they typically show the broadcast on NCL ships. Being a hockey nut too I would love to know the answer....after all the Lightning are going all the way aren't they? LOL LOL Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/04 [This message was edited by MidtheNight on 04-15-04 at 07:42 PM.]
KBIRN Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 As a huge Devils fan I had the same concern, sailing on the Dawn 5/2. But unfortunatley, it probably won't be an issue (Devils down 1-3) ESPN is listed as a channel they provide but depends on where the ship is if they can get reception. Anyway, good luck to Tampa, looks like they are going to take out the Islanders. watching SJ - STL now
MidtheNight Posted April 16, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Kbrin- Hopefully if ESPN is carrying it they'll at least be showing it in the sports lounge. Remember on one trip (Carnival) they brought in a big screen tv into one of their bigger bar areas (their sports bar was small) and we had a great time watching. My daughter will be driving me nuts during the trip if she can't watch the finally game.....you know that age 13 attitude that we all got around that age....you'd think it was a life or death thing with her. P.S. Sorry about the Devils....we really wanted the Lightning to get some payback for last year. Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/
gardencat Posted April 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Yes I remember that attitude! I started watching hockey during that long ago era of the 'original six' and was a die hard Montrel fan. When I was in high school the playoffs used to occur about the same time as the third term exam dates. My teachers always wondered why my marks which were pretty good in the 1st, 2nd and 4th terms took a nose dive on the 3rd term tests!
Denise58 Posted April 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2004 We were on the Dawn last week and they carried the NCCA Championship game and had "exclusive" rights to the Masters (that was on CBS) but they had it Friday and Sat. Need to have them move on so I have games to watch while cruising and keep me out of the casino... lol BTW lived in hawaii a few years back, and never got used to watching football at 6 am
Dolphins Posted April 17, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2004 The biggest problems the cruise ships have is to cover all the sports taking place at the same time. The basketball and hockey seasons used to be over when baseball started. Now you have the Stanley Cup finals in June???
MidtheNight Posted April 17, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 17, 2004 Dolphins- They can run through the first week in June depending on scheduling. I often wonder about baseball season...playing in the snow some years? And it not that rare of an occurrance either. I think all the sports league try to capitalize on their own popularity and run as long as they can each season. Baseball doesn't start for me until hockey is over with.....BTW, go Cubbies (grew up in Chicago and still a Cubs fan). Kbirn- Football at 6 a.m.??? You would think they could have at least tape delayed it a little. Went to the Bolts game last night where they clinched the series. Had seats right in between the two benches....up close and personal...Daughter was in seventh heaven especially when they won. Still want Devils to advance for a repeat match up of last year. Go BOLTS! Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/
Dolphins Posted April 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2004 MidtheNight- as a lifelong hockey fan, I miss the days when the hockey season ended in March and the playoffs in April. Hockey is a winter sport that should not be played in May and June. Some games have been delayed by fog on the ice caused by the heat. Lunacy and greed. MidtheNight Posted April 18, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted April 18, 2004 Dolphins- I agree...it is getting nuts. All the sports seem to expand in number of teams...then they expand in number of teams that make the playoffs...and on and on and on. Everybody wants to make their nickle and the only way seems to be to expand the length of the season. Sailin' on the Wind 5/29/
KBIRN Posted May 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2004 MidtheNight Just got off the Dawn on Sunday, and just to let you know, every night we had ESPN in the sports bar to watch the Hockey and Basketball games. However, on Saturday afternoon I was flipping through the channels in my cabin, and they had the Lightning / Flyers game on ABC. As soon as the game was over, ABC was gone. Hope they do the same on your cruise. Kenny
