Every port we make it to a beach eventually so I always have my bathing suit on either under my shorts and a pull-over top or I also have 2 reversible "cover-up" wrap skirts that I wear with a pull-over top - comfortable, easy and don't have to worry if they get wet but just a few minutes in the caribbean sun and you are dry anyways.

Perki,

Thanks for the useful info-so many things to consider in the pre-planning & packing. I really wondered if others wore suits or hoped to find a changing area. Do you plan excursions for each port or just "wing it" and take a taxi to your favorite beach?

Jessep--I bought a couple of pairs of swim capri's from LL Bean and I live in them during the summer. You can find them on the web site. We do alot of boating and I wear my bathing suit, the swim capri's and a top. I just take off my top and hop in the water. I am self conscious about my thighs after losing alot of weight and these are perfect to keep my legs covered.

Hope this helps

Missyal

We always plan our own excursions. This time I have set up 3 tours with independent tour companies I found from this board under Ports as well as by doing searches on Yahoo just typed in the island name and the word tour and saw what came up. In St. Thomas we are just catching a taxi at the pier to go to a beach as we have toured this island before and as it is our last stop would just like to have fun on a beach all day for our last day. I have found it very easy to do things on our own and for much cheaper than a cruiseline's tours not to mention they are much smaller groups than would be on a cruiseship sponsored one - talk about cattle call! The caveat is we always do 1/2 day tours or ones that end at least 2-3 hours before the ship leaves so we know we will have enough time to get to the ship without it leaving us behind, no sense chancing a last minute dash. On 1/2 day tours we just ask to be dropped off at a beach and taxi back to the ship leaving with plenty of time there again. Hope that helps

I wore a pair of shorts and brought/wore a t-shirt, or some little cool top. My bathing suit always seemed to dry out by the time I needed to pull the shorts back on, and the shorts are lightweight khaki types that dry quickly, so that always worked out well for me.
