speedy080765 Posted December 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2011 Is there anything that is a must see at this port. We are only there from 8-2. Any suggestions???
SnowshoeCat Posted December 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 4, 2011 Which port are you stopping at? I'm assuming Nassau, but there are other Bahamanian ports, and depending on your interests, there may be something you'd like to see or do. putchieo Posted December 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 4, 2011 If you've never been to Nassau, by all means get off the ship and check out the town if nothing more than to say, "i've been there". Don't be swayed by folks telling you to stay on the ship because they don't like Nassau. It's a poor town and a different culture, but we always found the locals to be friendly and lots of interesting shops to visit. Perhaps take a taxi ride to Atlantis ( or join an excursion there) for the same reason. It's a beautiful world class resort. Enjoy your visit. gottago2mexico Posted December 4, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I never understood why anyone would want to stay on the ship while at port. You're on the ship all night, and part of the day and often a full day or two at sea...cruises are an easy and inexpensive way to experience a different country, a different culture. As with any travel, it's important to do your homework so you know what to do in each port, and have any excursions pre-booked so you don't have to waste your port time wandering aimlessly with the masses. You notice the difference in posts on these forums from those who plan and those who don't. The experiences are a world apart.
SnowshoeCat Posted December 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2011 I think you need to decide why you're cruising. Are you interested in seeing new places, or do you just like to enjoy the ship? Assuming we're talking about Nassau. Yes, there's lots to see. It's the capital of The Bahamas. There's history, culture (both high and "colorful"), shopping, beaches. Thinking abut it, it's probably one of the more interesting stops, it's just that many of us have been there at least a few times. Sometimes people stay on the ship because they feel they've seen it all, and also you can enjoy a somewhat empty ship while everyone else is ashore. But if you've never been there, then yes. Get off and see a new country! There are guidebooks and websites to help you research.

Lv2Camp&Cruise Posted December 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2011 Get off the ship! People that do not enjoy Nassau have either been there countless times or they stay right at the port area. Take a tour, do an excursion, lay on a beautiful beach, get a day pass at a local resort, visit Atlantis.....there are numerous things to do. Whatever you do, have fun and be a traveler, not a tourist.
JPGirl750 Posted December 5, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2011 Is there anything that is a must see at this port. We are only there from 8-2. Any suggestions??? Since you are only in port until 2pm, you still have the rest of the day to enjoy the ship. I would suggest browsing around online and check out all the different things there are to do in your port. Ive had luck with http://www.caribbeanshoretours.com/ If you arent into snorkeling or adventure type stuff, at least do some sort if island tour where you can see some of the island and maybe buy a souvenier or try a local lunch. You are in a new place, check it out, take some pictures, and fun!
