punkie022002 Posted April 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2004 How will I get to the beach, volcano, Hilo Hatties if I have not booked an excursion on the ship or rented a car? Is transportation at the pier? I have read that one can save almost half price by doing off ship excursions. I am not sure how to go about it. Suebee Posted May 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2004 When you book an excursion direct from the tour operator, just ask if they have pier pickup. Many do that because the ship is in port that one day and they want to maximize their income. Car rental companies all have pickup at the pier. In Hilo, our shuttle was only accepting people with reservations...other ports didnt care. Hilo Hatties has a shuttle to and from their store. The Maui Ocean Center has a shuttle that runs to there. NCL runs a shuttle to Lahaina but why would you take theirs when Hilo Hatties is Free and it is in Lahaina. And I think Kauai had a shuttle to Wal Mart. I wrote and extensive article on the Hawaii board called "A topic on Oahu Shuttles". Look there for information about that island. BTW, we rented cars on every island (except our own of course) and on one tour alone, saved $200 for the family of 4 by driving it instead of taking the NCL tour. Aloha NCL Star 1/04 What's Next?
