Just of the Magic...LOVE the ship!

We are just off the magic, we had an Amazing time with a few surprises along the way...

Little background on our family, we are carnival platinum members, there are 9 of us traveling including my brother with special needs. Our kids are 7, 10 & 16. Embarkation was great. From car to ship was less than 30 minutes. Our luggage was in our rooms with in the hour. We had 4 Cove Balcony’s rooms 2399, 2401, 2403 & 2405 Great Rooms & Great Location!! Our room steward was Henry, he took unbelievable care of our family. As soon as we got on-board my husband and I went to the Spa to purchase the VIP access package for the Thalassotherapy Pool & All Thermal Suites I believe we paid $250 per couple (or $150 single) for the entire week. They only allow apx 50 weekly passes so book 1st thing! You can also purchase limited daily passes (very hard to get can not purchase in advance basically have to be in the spa when it opens the day you want to do it) I used it every day! Well worth every penny! On to dinner...we were located at the perfect table in the MDR table 623 We had an amazing WS the head waiter, DJ (as we called him) was Amazing! Very prompt, friendly and genuinely very kind. We loved him (+ our whole WS) The first 2 Days at sea were great! The kids explored everywhere as did we! Seas were good the entire cruise. Love the decor and the ship is very clean, I didn't get the “ick” factor. We had 4 POC the only POC change was only by a few miles in Roatan instead of docking in Mahogany Bay we docked in Coxen Hole (it was too dangerous due to the high winds to dock in MB) I will not go on about the great times we had in the POC's if you have any questions just ask... we went to Costa Maya, Belize, Roatan & Cozumel. Now for the surprises.... The 1st 3 POC there were very strong paint fumes coming thru our vents so we called and complained because it was posing a problem with my brothers respiratory system. Each time they fixed it immediately! On the last POC they called to make sure it didn't happen again and it had not, much to our surprise that evening they credited each of the 9 of our family members a substantial amount of money back to our account for the inconvenience, This was a total surprise and very gracious. On to surprise #2, Christmas day my husband sliced his finger open while cutting off a luggage tag while I was packing, we went straight to the Infirmary the Staff was amazing, got him glued & bandaged up in no time flat. With that behind us off to dinner and trying to enjoy the last few hours of time together while the kids are at the Arcade & Camp. All tucked into bed and on to Surprise # 3.... at 3AM I get a knock on my door (I thought it was just teenagers playing around) to my surprise when I opened the door there were about 10 Carnival Crew members in my hallway. My Brother had stopped breathing in the middle of the night and was unresponsive after CPR. The medical staff was Amazing! Long story short, when they felt it was appropriate to get him on the stretcher they proceeded to the Infirmary. During this time security blocked our hallway and didn't allow any on-lookers what so ever! The captain was notified of the emergency and proceeded a little faster to port where we would have an ambulance waiting. Carnival Guest Services Manager stayed with my Mom & Sister the entire time. Once we arrived in Port at Galveston he was rushed to UTMB Galveston along the while we had Crew members with us getting the rest of my family ready to disembark as soon as we were cleared by customs. CCL member escorted my sister and Dad thru customs loaded them in a Taxi and sent them on to the hospital the they returned to help me and the kids get our luggage and thru customs. My brother is currently in ICU. Despite these few surprises this was an AMAZING SHIP and the CREW was Amazing as well!! If you have any questions about the ship or it POC just ask and I'll answer the best I can. We will defiantly be cruising the Magic AGAIN!!

We were on the Magic as well, and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the ship and crew. We heard the "Brightstar" call this morning, and were curious as to what happened. Hope everything turns out well.

I didn't know what "Brightstar" meant...I had to google that one! Interesting, I never even though about code words...

Thanks for all the well wishes! Again I can't thank CCL enough for their compassion & support. We will take it day by day.

Thank you for the review. Could you explain more about the VIP spa package? What is included? Do you know what is available in the spa without the package? We are going to be sailing on the Magic this summer. We've previously sailed on the Conquest and Legend but there wasn't any type of spa package like this.

Best wishes to your brother for a speedy recovery.

My prayers for you family and wish your brother a speedy recovery.

It was a busy time for the cove balcony rooms. We were in 2407 and 2409. We just loved the rooms. And the view of the water while sailing is great.

We agree with the Guest Services Manager, she was fantastic with us after MIL broke her hip in her room in Roatan. My wife and MIL disembarked there and we were put in giving updates through Guest Services the rest of the trip, and the put me in contact with my wife several times at no cost.

Henry was great with us also, and asked about MIL the rest of the trip.

I also heard the call for 2405 at 3am, and heard the staff rushing to and working outside our rooms.

We would book on the Magic again with no issues.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I sure hope your brother has a speedy recovery. It sure is comforting to hear how well the Magic crew responded and took care of everyone in the family.

I love your whole positive attitude about the trip, and extremely appreciate your review, when you had such a difficult stressful last few hours on the ship.

We are sailing this upcoming Sunday on the Magic and are in 2 Cove Balconys right next door to yours. Did you experience any excessive noise from the galley above?

Again thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

We were in Cove balcony 2353 this past week, and the only noise we heard from above was on the first night(Sunday) around midnight for about an hour, and again on the 2nd Sunday(25th) around the same time. Might be a cleaning schedule they had. However, it wasn't enough noise that we had to complain. We loved the cove balcony. The only complaint we had is people just letting the balcony door close, it is really a slam, behind them every time they went in and out. It really is loud. You are just sitting there relaxing in your chair, and bam!! someones balcony door slams. Even with those annoying slams, we will get a cove balcony again.

Thanks for sharing.... I will make an effort not to let the door slam. Where you facing the port or the water in Galveston?

We faced the water side at every port, except when we arrived back in Galveston. When we originally left Galveston, we were on the water side as well.

Hi Karen, Not really late at night every once in a while we would hear what sounded like someone sliding something across the floor (no big deal, only lasted for a minute)

I do agree with the Doors slamming, I would try to remind the kids as much as possible and If they were going in and out I just propped open the door. Also agree that it wasn't enough to make us not book the cove again that's for sure! We love it, better that the Suites we had last year! Bigger isn't always better!

The VIP pkg included the use of the Thalassotherapy Pool, 2 Steam Sauna Rooms with aroma therapy, Dry Sauna, Relaxing Room, Fancy Shower with aromatherapy best part was all the lounge chairs were made of small mosaic tiles and they were all HEATED!! it was amazing! you could use all of these at anytime and as many times as you wanted (if you purchase the weekly pass) I figured for the price of 1 massage I could pay for a full week of relaxation on my own as many times as I wanted to go!

My brother is currently still in ICU in Galveston waiting for a bed to open up in Houston. We believe that he will recover but will need to stay hospitalized in ICU for a few more days. Thank You to everyone for your well wishes! It's very kind of you!

We were also on the Magic last week. What a beautiful ship she is! My thoughts and prayers are with your family and UTMB is a great hospital. And is so close to the terminal which is very nice. And the staff on the Magic are amazing some of the best we've ever cruised with. May all go well for your brother and your next cruise be uneventful and full of fun!

You might want to compare the price of a spa balcony room with a cove balcony plus VIP spa package. If you have a spa balcony, those perks are part of the cost, plus you are right there! That's what I got - sailing in a few weeks and I am looking forward to using the spa daily!
