Few Last Minute Questions

This will be our first cruise and I have a few last miute questions. We will be taking a 4 day cruise to freeport and nassau.

1. How much cash should we take with us. It is My wife myself and a 3 year old and 4 year old.

2. Is there anything is the ports we should make sure we do or avoid.

3. We are thinking about just staying on the boat in one of the ports. Which port would you reccomend to do that in.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated also if anyone has anyother first time cruise suggestions I would like to hear them.

Definitely stay on the ship in Freeport. As far as money, if you just go in one port we would not need more than 200 dollars and probably not that much. Everything on board will go on your sail and sign card, excursions, drinks, casino and any shopping on the ship. I know on our first cruise the wife wanted to buy souvenirs for everybody, so be careful there. Hope you have a great cruise.

Some people are nervous in the Bahamas, personally I love it. One suggestion though...

Everyone, and I mean everyone will try to braid your hair and stick beads in it. We've learned over time to have one little piece of our hair braided with beads right off the bat. It costs about 5.00 (and that's expensive), but when they've seen that you already had it done they won't bother you as much. If they ask - show 'em the beads!

Secondly, the beaches are nice. That's the best part of the trip for me. Just go down to the beach and spend the day. Everything has gotten so commercialized that we try to steer clear of the "swimming with dolphins/stingrays" stuff.

Have a wonderful time and use Camp Carnival. The kids will have fun and so will you!!!

Number 1 thing to do is just go have fun and go with the flow. Do not take what everybody on here says as gospel. Don't avoid certain tours or ports because people on here said not to do it.

What one person says to avoid, the next person will say is the best ever.

Just go and experience things for yourself and have a wonderful time with your family.

Safe travels!

Thanks for all the advice. Is there a good public beach in Nassau or should we do one of the day pass things at one of the hotels.

When we went to Nassau a few years ago, we just grabbed a taxi and asked for a nice public beach. The driver took us to a beach right next to a RIU resort complex, very close to Atlantis and it was beautiful and free. The cab ride was like $20 for 4 of us, plus tip. I agree with the previous poster about the braiding - very agressive. We sat there laughing as two women fought over our friend's hair.

Here are some pics of the beach:

It all depends on what YOU like. Freeport has been greatly affected by recent storms; however, I still like to relax on the beach at Lucaya. My kids had a ball playing in the water. In Nassau, we enjoyed Atlantis (by way of Comfort Suites) and Oh Andros at the Fish Fry. Check out the Bahamas section in the Ports of Call section to get more information. Since this is your first cruise don't limit yourself; just enjoy what the islands have to offer. You won't know if you like a certain port or not if you don't try it out. And if you don't like it, simply take a taxi back to the ship.

I've been to both islands and would stay on the boat in Nassau and hire a driver in Freeport to go around the islandand and stop at Lucaya. It's great there. (I travelled with a 3 yr old also)

There is a beach within walking distance to the port in Nassau. It's a small beach with some lunch huts. We spent the day there and enjoyed ourselves... But didn't really enjoy it as much as we enjoyed Freeport
