mp3jrick Posted April 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2005 Caught these this AM from Summit in Cozumel. Sort of a little close under any circumstances IMO. It happened twice in the clips. This port has plenty of dockage and the ship is right over a reef we snorkled on.
Bingo Posted April 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2005 How close were they? Sort of hard to tell from the angle the pictures were taken from. Even if they were close, it would only be bad if one of the captains was from the Exxon Valdez. LOL Dan
davehau Posted April 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2005 The angle here is a tad deceptive. The cruise ship dock doglegs off the dock structure running from the shoreline. Alongside the connector pier to the shore is a ferry pier, and it appears that the vessel crossing in the web-cam pics is one of the ferries. You can see the overall arrangement in this picture http://www.davehau.com/daypic/galcoz1.jpg (you can also see the other pier that is in front of the Summit in the middle of the right side of this pic). The short pier that juts out to the starboard side of that tug is the ferry doc. This picture is from the upper decks of the Galaxy, and while it appears her bow extends beyond the corner of the cruise ship dock, this other picture, http://www.davehau.com/daypic/galcoz2.jpg, taken on the dock connecting to the shore, shows that her bow is well behind the corner, and that her bow lines extend to the corner of the pier. When the ferry arrives, however, the local authorities close pedestrian access to the connector pier, presumably in case the ferry would cut it a tad close coming in.
