Car rental question

Are there any car rental companies on the pier at Philipsburg, St. Maarten? Any suggestions on renting a car for the day? Thanks--

A friend (who travels regularly to St. Martin) recommended Unity Car Rentals, but when I called, they said they do not rent to people on one day cruise stops. He told me that Hertz was the only company that he knew of that did that. This makes me wonder if doing a one day rental is not advisable? I would be interested in from hearing from others about the pro's and con's. We were hoping to be on our own to explore Orient Beach, Maho, Marigot, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks!

There are 5 companies at the pier who rent to cruisers for the day. Hertz, Budget and 3 (or is it now 2) locals.We usually use Hertz, a little more expensive) but it is a franchise operation

 

They all shut down at 5 PM.
