Cayman...what, where

A group of eight (four couples) about half of us want to snorkle, all of us want to drink. We don't want to do a snorkle boat excursion...should we stay at 7 mile beach, a restaurant around the port, or go to another beach on the other side of the island? Any suggestions?

While the best snorkeling IMO is found on the other side of the island, what you can find easily and conveniently right around the port is darn good as well. Snorkeling the Eden Rock/Devil's Grotto area on the eastern side of the port or Cheeseburger Reef and the wrecks just to the north, is tough to beat from a quality and convenience perspective.

No beach, but close to plenty of bars and restaurants, which to use as a launching pad for snorkeling (Paradise Bar & Grill, Hammerheads Bar & Grill, Rackhams Bar & Grill, Burger King, etc...) and almost smack dab in the middle of downtown for shopping and other dinning/drinking options.

For "better" snorkeling, if you can get an excursion to Rum Point, the non-snorkelers will have a nice beach area with chairs and amenities and if the snorkelers go to the areas indicated here and not limit themselves to the immediate area around the Rum Point beach, it might just be worth your while.

Sunset House dive lodge is another option with on-site bar and restauarnt, a quick acb ride away from port.

I totally second Sunset House Dive Resort south of town. We walked there. Great snorkeling, little crowds, AWESOME bar, and really great prices on food.....comparatively. We thought we would go there for a couple hours for snorkeling and come back to town for lunch, but had such an great time we ate lunch AND had afternoon snacks there. Snorkeled a ton, listened to music, enjoyed the cold, cold beer and beautiful sunshine. It's a great place. Since you have a group, I would highly recommend it. Some can snorkel while others just sit and relax and socialize, eating and drinking their way through the day.
