clearwell Posted May 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Here goes May do this in two parts. LEAVING THE UK Flight with virgin was fine, The Helmsley was a good hotel well situated, had 24hrs in New York before arriving at the pier around 2pm. Embarkation Sheer Hell!! I know Brits are supposed to like queueing but! First stop leave your cases with the porters outside the port building, was not sure about this! Then join the queue 45mins through one hall and then another 45 mins to the xray machines.Once through there, aniother 20 min queue to have your picture taken credit card swiped etc etc Then another very small queue to pick up your room keys. Next you dodge the photographer (as you are not looking your best by this point!)Boarding the ship and firnding our cabin was really easy. cabin Mini suite 11570 midships slightly forward. Good location near forward and midships lifts and stairs. Nice size all the amenities you need, only down side was being able to hear on one occasion the bass from the music above ( I think for that time only they had extra speakers on the floor of the deck above.) Cabin attendant was good no complaints. Day one to be continued ...........
EdNottingham Posted May 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Hi T, Welcome aboard If the queue/line thing is limited to UK residents, then I'm an honorary Brit. Fortunately, when we did the Dawn, it was repositioning from MIA or FLL forget which, and up to NYC. Getting off was sheer hell! Limited if any order/organization to the process. But, glad you're on, and let the fun begin ... much to see and do, and so little time. Enjoy the restaurants/dining rooms, but most of all, enjoy the relaxation. Have a great time.
