Actually, my recommendation would be to pass. Ponta Delgada and it's island is one of the most magical places I have ever been. It has beauty like no other place I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor, and go see the land and the people if you have just a port day there instead.

Would you happen to know where is the closest ATM to the cruise port terminal? How long will it take to walk there?

My wife and I stay on San Miguel 3 weeks every summer. There is a cash machine right in the port area on the first floor. Lots of them nearby (couple minutes walk). Ponta Delgada is quite cosmopolitan, like a small european city, especially near the waterfront.

 

I concur best thing to do in one day is see the island. It is a beautiful, sometimes magical place. We call it the Hawaii of the Atlantic.
