SPIRIT Q - do portholes open?

Just wondering if the windows open outwards, slide open or don't open at all

I haven't been on the Spirit, but on all other ships I have been on, windows and portholes do not open in staterooms. Only opening I've seen is the glass doors leading to balconies.

I don't believe any "modern" cruise ships have opening windows, other than sliders, etc., on balconies.

 

Actually, I would imagine that there is some prohibition written into the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) treaties, under which most modern ships operate.

In the fall of 2000 a rogue wave hit the "Crown Odyssey" broadside and knocked out ten stateroom windows-

 

That may qualify for "open portholes"
