zsazsagaboa Posted February 25, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2012 We are booked to go on the Medterranean and greek island cruise on the 9 August and we were curious as to the route the ship will take around the bottom of Italy. Does anyone know whether we will use the Messina Strait or go around Sicily. We're excited about our first cruise and trying to picture the route. MavisMarie Posted February 25, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2012 Going through the Strait of Messina is a very interesting , albeit WINDY, part of the cruise. You will be able to see Sicily on one side of the ship and mainland Italy on the other. A lot of people position themselves at the front of the ship to have the perfect view. Also, the area around Stromboli is interesting and only a few hours from the Strait. You will be able to see the Stromboli volcano spewing. One time, our captain even made an event of it by slowly maneuvering the ship around the volcano and we saw a lot more than we'd ever seen before. It was most exciting. You can ask any officer on the ship to let you know what the times of these two events will be. They will contact the bridge and give you an answer.
