taffy12 Posted February 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Question: So these still life photos I always see where there's just an object obviously sitting on a surface, but everything surrounding it is white with no discernible walls or backgrounds or anything...are those taken using a lightbox? Would something like this be good for photos of this sort using small objects? http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Deluxe-Table-Top-Photo-Studio-Photo-Light-Box/6290445/product.html?cid=123620
Rare pierces Posted February 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Lightboxes are widely used for product and project photography. Small lightboxes have little practical value beyond their fairly narrow purpose but for that purpose, they are very useful. You may also want to consider an inexpensive backdrop and light kit like this: LINK A small 6x9 backdrop like the one shown can be draped over a table for small items or all the way to the floor for larger objects or people. Additional backgrounds can be added as desired. Dave
cosine4 Posted February 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 29, 2012 If you are just looking to do this as a hobby or for eBay photos and don't want to invest in equipment you can buy a cheap white bed sheet and if you want to have a reflection get a small white board to use underneath your subject (don't use if for writing on though). This method might require some small touch ups in post processing but works fairly nice for the setup cost.
awboater Posted February 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 29, 2012 I use 4 pieces of whiteboard duck taped together (on the outside) to form a box (bottom, back, and two sides), and two Morris Mini-Slave II flashes for photographing small objects.
