cruisin'sz Posted March 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2012 We would like to visit Skocjan caves when our ship docks in Koper, but would prefer not to set up the tour in advance if we don't have to, as we will probably all be somewhat jet-lagged and are not sure how much we will want to do that day. We are a group of 6. Is this something we can easily arrange when we get off the ship? Are there large taxis for hire at the port or would we need to get 2 cabs? Alternatively, are there tour guides waiting at the port that go to the various caves in the area?
dln929 Posted March 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2012 We were in Koper last October. We went to the Unesco World Heritage site, Skocjan Caves http://www.park-skocjanske-jame.si/eng/caves.shtml. We walked off the ship and signed for an excursion at one of the kiosks on the pier. It was 40 euros each and the driver took us to the caves and admission was included. He picked us back up afterwards. It was a great adventure and one of the highlights of our trip! The mini van seated eight people. It didn't take very long to get there. If you do this trip, wear really comfortable shoes as there is quite a bit of walking and some of it is on the steep side. The caves are absolutely stunning. Enjoy!
