tracyanns Posted March 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 29, 2012 I am going on Glory in May which leaves at 5PM. What is the earliest time that I can start boarding? Do you mean what time can you get there to get checked in and wait to board or what time will they actually board?
jaded99 Posted March 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2012 Carnival's website should list for each embarkation port what time embarkation starts at. In our experience, arriving 1-1.5 hours before embarkation starts or an hour before "last call" for boarding gets you through the line the fastest. maryred Posted March 30, 2012 #8 Share Posted March 30, 2012 I have arrived for the Glory out of NYC as early as 9:30am when she leaves port at 5pm. Though able to check in as soon as we arrived (the line was maybe 10 minutes long) we had to wait in the terminal until 11:30am for zone 2 boarding. Luckily the Manhattan terminal has a decent waiting area with seats and a snack bar. Even with the bottle neck once at the ships doors we made it to the Lido deck by noon. In general the embarkation process will not start until after all the previous cruise's paxs leave the ship and the on board wedding is done w/ the non-sailing guests are escorted back to shore. After that the VIPs currently waiting get to board first then they start on the general zone boarding. The cabins usually are not ready until 1:30pm so you will need to travel around w/ your carry-ons until then. Eventually the checking processing starts to equal the volume of people boarding, so the zone boarding wait gives way to just walking on board. My parents have also arrived in NYC after 2:30pm for the 5pm sail away with a relatively short lines and walked right on board to their cabin (but the Lido buffet was closed already only the grill and pizza was open). For our trip in May on the Miracle we are planning to hopefully arrive just before 9am when the terminal opens to try for zone 1, but I'm not counting on getting a zone that low since the Miracle leaves at 4pm. Had2cruz Posted May 1, 2012 #13 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Has anyone cruised out of Norfolk? What is the process like? I have only cruised out of Port Canaveral with Disney so I have no idea. With living so close to the terminal, I figured we'd arrive later and not have to wait. We have a party of 12...not sure if this is a good idea?? crazycoop Posted May 1, 2012 #14 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Hi , i am going on the same cruise on the 21st and did it last year in october, we arrived pretty early about 11:30 with no wait and no lines, only problems that waiting on the room to be ready once on board. I have heard that the biggest lines are usually between 12-2. Are you parkign or getting dropped off?

cruisenanny Posted May 3, 2012 #16 Share Posted May 3, 2012 As others have said, t's not unreasonable to arrive between 10-11am & expect to board the ship around 11:30-12:00ish barring any unforeseen issues. Have a great cruise:)
