sunshine 229 Posted April 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2005 No doubt some of you on this board have heard all the fuss about the rogue wave that hit thNCL's Dawn on it's return to NYC on Apr. 17. Some reports say that there were 2 other cruise ships near to the Dawn shortly before it was hit by this wave but no one on the NCL board seems to be able to say which ships these were. I'm curious and someone suggested that I ask around on other boards and see if I could find out. So does anyone here know if one of the ships in the area of the storm on that morning was a Princess one?
peckfamily5 Posted April 29, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2005 We were on the Caribbean Princess returning from Princess Cays to Ft. Lauderdale and we had very rough seas, even the crew were commenting on it. I don't know where in relation we were to the Dawn but I have to imagine we were in the same general vacinity as we were traveling the same route. peckfamily5 Posted April 29, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2005 Forgot to mention - we were returning from the Bahamas on Friday (same day as the Dawn) which was April 8-9 not the 10th.
beckers Posted April 29, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2005 However, we only went to Ft. Lauderdale, they got hit with the rouge wave further up the coast did they not?
peckfamily5 Posted April 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2005 Hi Beckers, Nice to talk with you again on these boards. It was nice meeting you and your husband. The wave may have hit them a little further north of us, I'm not clear on where and when exactly it hit, but I was just sharing that we were experiencing rough seas as well. We had packed up Friday night to put our luggage out and some of the drawers weren't closed tightly and several times during the night I had to get up to close drawers (the safe door was banging, the bathroom door -which we left open for lighting was banging, draweres in both the desk and night tables). Needless to say we didn't sleep much from 3:00am on.:o
crisp1 Posted April 29, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2005 The Golden was no where near the Dawn, but Friday night and Saturday morning there were stiff breezes and the water in the pools did some sloshing around during our return to San Juan from Aruba. RichP Posted April 29, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2005 We were on the Dawn Princess between St Thomas & Princess Cays in the Atlantic. They seas were rough in the day and you could see dark clouds in the distance. It got worse at night (staggering in the halls) and wind advisory signs posted on the exterior doors.
