New York - Self Disembarkation

We disembarked New York on 22 April. Others have debated over the merits of doing it yourself. Our experience is that it is well worth it.

You register with the purser for self disembarkation. The time for getting off is announced but on our arrival we actually got off earlier at 7.45. If doing it yourself you have to be able to get all your bags along the corridors, down the lift and off the ship. The journey from the ship to the car/taxi pickup is more than 200 meters so you do have to be fit as there are no porters.

However, leaving the ship is a doddle as there were only about 100 others with us and we were the first off so little by way of immigration queuing.

The only down side to not taking the Cunard transport to hotels/airports or having a prebooked limo or friend to meet you, is that the taxis don't seem to want to make the journey to the terminal and the queue was quite long and taxi arrivals sporadic. It's a shame that nobody can prearrange this as we were queued for about 30 minutes and were nearly first off the ship.

Hope this assists others.
