Ghost booking

When you have a cruise already booked, you then go to Carnival website and go thru the motions to book the same cruise you are going on. You pick the destination port, month of cruise, and the number of travelers, then you pick the cabin level you have and all the same details. It will then tell you what it would cost to go on that cruise. And if you are lucky enough to have a rate that is cheaper than the rate you paid for, you then would submit for an onboard credit for the difference in the price.

It's just a term that has spread throughout these forums. It means the same as "fake booking" or "mock booking". I've never really understood using those terms, as it may confuse people, like it has confused you. It simply means checking the current prices. There is nothing fake about what we're doing, and we're not booking anything in any way, fake or real. It's just checking prices & availability, with the option to book (for real). When we go to stores and check prices and availability of products, we don't call it "fake buying". It's called shopping.

If you are booked under the Early Saver rate, you can price match to any lower rate that you qualify for, whether it be the current Early Saver rate, senior rate, past guest rate, etc. It must be for the same cabin category, same sailing, same number of people. That FareViewer link provided by BlueBoss is the best way to check it. If you find a lower rate, you can submit a form to receive that lower rate. With the Early Saver rate, this can continue to be done up until a few days before sailing. When you price match to a different rate, you still remain under Early Saver. Once ES, always ES.

Any other rate, you would compare to that same rate, and if it drops, you can call & receive the lower rate. Or, you could switch over to another rate that may be lower, and you are then under that different rate. This can only be done up until the final payment date. People call it a ghost/mock/fake booking, as meaning that they are checking for lower rates that they are hoping to price match to. It can be done through that FareViewer link or Carnival's regular booking engine. The FareViewer link is much more user friendly.
