Capt. Paul Wright leaving QM2?

A 'yahoo' list member is reporting that Capt. Paul Wright is leaving the QM2 and has been reassigned to Princess.

 

Does anyone have any particulars? I sailed with Capt. Wright once...on QE2 over 09/11/01. He handled the ship, the passengers and the crew admirably during that tragic time.

Yes - he has been withdrawn from Cunard & re-assigned to Princess - I heard this from staff onboard the QM2.

Too bad, and what a sorry and undeserved demotion for him. Is he being replaced by the American 1st Officer?

:confused: Are you sure that this transfer is a demotion? In the corporate world, staff moving up the ladder are often transferred to "lesser" companies to familiarize them with many areas of the corporation. Perhaps he's being primed to move to an eventual higher position within the corporation.

The transfer of a Cunard Captain from one of the Queens to any of the floating apartment buildings that pass for ships in the tacky world of Carnival/Princess is a demotion. It is the functional equivalent of taking a master conductor from the New York Philharmonic and making him head of a hillbilly jug-band.
