Hi,

We will be in Le Havre on Sunday Oct 14 on the Eclipse, the ship overnights there. We would like to do a 1 night trip to paris, via train.

Have any of you done that?? I would appreciate any information or experience you would share.

Thanks!!

I suppose you could go to Paris, but Normandy is so charming and beautiful and the Amercian cemetery and Omaha beach are breathtaking. There is a charming town on the coast named Deauville that has a casino. We took a trip by car from Paris to Normandy and it is one of my favorite vacations. I guess if you think you would never go back to Paris, then do the overnight , but you really need a week in Paris to soak it all in and you probably wouldn't get to Normandy any other way.

Coachloads of folk go to Paris even as a day-trip via ship's excursion.

If overnight means two full days it's well worth getting a Paris hotel for the night.

But even if your ship sails early morning, you'll not have to clock-watch on your one-day visit. So yes, go for it.

The train from Le Havre takes about 2hrs 20 & the service is reliable.

There are plenty of other options, 1234 is right about Normandy - the nearby coastal towns such as Honfleur, Deauville/Trouville, or the D-Day beaches / Pointe du Hoc /American cemetery overlooking Omaha / Arromanches / Pegasus Bridge. With two days, a rented car & a hotel somewhere like Arromanches or Camp Maisy, you could cover D-Day in style & include Utah and Ste Mere-Eglise as well as non-D Day sights such as historic Bayeux. Needs a lot of research & planning, but well worth the trouble.

On the other hand, if you're none-too-sure whether you'll ever get back to France, Paris has to be your number one objective - your time there will be limited, but not as limited as for those on a one-day call at Le Havre.

JB :)
