legalwife Posted June 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2012 We have been booked for awhile now in a balcony, but I looked today and one of the balconies on the other side that I was eyeing in the beginning is now available. We are sailing out of New York on the 7 day. Which side would you recommend? I believe we will see the Sta of Lib on the starboard side, but think the port docking will be better on port side and now I am just not sure at all... Have any of you done this and what say you? I know factors can change at ports as to whether pulling in or backing in, but what do you think? Thanks.

When we were on the Glory, one port we were starboard and the other port we were port side, so it really doesn't matter... you have a 50/50 shot....
Beyondships Posted June 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 7, 2012 In New York, the port side is mpore spectacular as you sail down the river past the skyline of Manhattan. However, you would have to leave a port side cabin to see the Statue of Liberty because that is on the starboard side. Sailing into New York, it is just the opposite. legalwife Posted June 7, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Thanks for your responses. I am wondering if you can see land when you are going north if you are in a port side cabin - like in Alaska you can see land. Are we so far out that this is no point at all? Appreciate the help. sailaway4 Posted June 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2012 We did starboard so we could see Lady Liberty. So glad we did. Once you are out of the port and in the ocean you will not see any land.
sailaway4 Posted June 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Also for the two ports we did (Halifax and Saint Johns) we docked with the starboard next to the pier.
legalwife Posted June 7, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Hmmmm.... The plot thickens. I think I am leaning starboard now. Currently booked port. I hate making these life changing decisions. :p:eek::D
