Tess2mommies Posted May 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2005 If you had to pick between the Star and the Sun, which would you pick and why? Thanks for all your help.
Toto2Kansas Posted May 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2005 We have sailed on both ships and they both have their good points. We do prefer the smaller Sun Class ships and the intimate atmosphere. We sailed on the Star for 25 days in a mini suite, the ship is huge. Offers a lot of things to do and places to go. One thing to keep in mind, depending on the type of cabin that you are looking at. The Star has hundreds of mini suites and balcony cabins and they are quite reasonable compared to the Sun Class ships. The Star has larger balconies in the balcony cabins also. The Sun has smaller balconies 'cut from the hull' that are totally covered. But the mini suites on the Sun are more like the full suites on the Star. We enjoyed both of the cruises on these ships. I think the one thing for us that would factor in here is the itinerary. We would probably go with the one that interested us the most.
Druke I Posted May 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2005 We haven't been on the Star Princess, but have been on her sister, Golden Princess, and we have also been on the Sun Princess. Personally, I am not a fan of the Grand class ships, which I think are too large. We very much liked the size and layout of the Sun Princess, and her mini-suites are almost the equivalent of a full suite on the other Princess ships. All things being equal (are they ever?), I would choose Sun Princess.
Tess2mommies Posted May 7, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted May 7, 2005 If you had to pick between the Star and the Sun, which would you pick and why? Thanks for all your help. I guess I need to leave a bit more information. We've been on the Golden, we enjoyed it and we didn't even see a lot of what the ship offered. This cruise would likely be replacing our Panama cruise on the Coral. We are in our early 20's. Your input is greatly appreciated. The Star itinerary Fll At sea At Sea St. Vincent Grenada (Went when damaged last time) St. Lucia Martinique St. Thomas At Sea Princess Cays FLL The Sun itinerary FLL Princess Cays At Sea St. Thomas Dominica Barbados Isla Margarita (enjoyed) Curacao At Sea At Sea FLL
CaptData Posted May 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2005 If you like a lot of choices for food and entertainment then the Star, if you like less crowds and more intimate areas the Sun.
BullinOhio Posted May 7, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2005 Both are nice iteneraries. We have been on the Sun for that same iten. and loved it. We have also been on the Star on a different iten. and liked it too. If you were going with a balcony, I would choose the Star since their balconies are better. Since you are in your early 20's, you might like the disco on the Star better (the Sun's was DEAD on our cruise). Cruises over 7 days tend to skew to a little older average age. You might enjoy the extra 650 passengers on the Star and I would guess that the average age on the Star might be a little lower, since it is a newer ship. All that being said, if it were me (early 30's), I would go on the Sun again (either inside cabin or aft suite). I liked the Sun better than the Star and I REALLY loved that trip! Since you have been on the Golden, I will offer that I really liked the Golden better than the Star (I think the Golden is the best Grand-class ship). BTW... Curacao, Barbados, St. Thomas, Princess keys, and (especially)Dominica are great. There is not much in Isla Margarita though.
cruiserforlife Posted May 7, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 7, 2005 Have been to all these ports on both of these ships. Personally,I think I like the itineary better on the Star compared to the Sun although both are very attractive. More to do on the Star, she certainly is a beautiful ship...probably my favorite of all the Princess ships I have sailed.Cabins are bigger and mini-suites are fantastic!;) You really can't go wrong with either choice... Toto2Kansas Posted May 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 7, 2005 20 somethings? I would say the Star would be more to your liking then the Sun. But then, that is just my opinion!
Tess2mommies Posted May 7, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted May 7, 2005 As you can see, we're pretty indecisive. We were fine with our Coral booking but the dates aren't working in our favor. We may be in our early 20's but we are not the partying type. We didn't set foot into a disco or whatever they are called on the Golden, just not our scene. Having said that, are the casino's and bingo better on the star as opposed to the sun? We've never participated in activities before but i'm thinking they'd have lots of activities either way, definitely considering that this is a holiday sailing (DEC 18-28)
bardgal Posted May 7, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2005 STAR. Better balconies.

Obviously, more choices on the Star based on it's size difference to the Sun-class ships. Gotta love the suites and mini's on the Star!;)
