Puffins in mid September in St John's Newfoundland

Recommended Posts

Is there a chance we will see Puffins in mid September? We are docking in St John's on Sept 18th. I read that the whale season is over, but I'm not sure about the puffins.

Don't be sure the whales are gone. Hopefully the captain will make an announcement when he spots some. Bring your binoculars. We took a whale watch in October and saw quite a few off the coast of Massachusetts. They feed off of stellwagon bank.

The whales will be gone by then...maybe they'll be around MA on their way to South America where they go for the winter. Puffins are mostly gone back out to sea by mid Sept, but if the warmth we are experiencing this year continues you might just catch them, you are just around the time they leave.

Anything else you'd like to know, just ask.
