Snorkeling in Nassau

snorkelking

Recommended Posts

Going to be in Nassau for only one day with NCL. Would prefer not to use NCL to snorkel - Problem is that NCL doesn't arrive until 8:30AM. Wanted to do Stuart's Cave but arrive to late to catch bus! Can anyone recommend a tour that fits with an 8:30 arrival?
Thanks in advance!

When I was on RCI Explorer we took the Rainbow Reef snorkel tour. It was inexpensive. They provide you with Masks, Fins, Snorkel & inflatable vest.

The water was clear, and the fish were all over the place. One thing to remember: to attract fish on the cheap, grab a box of cereal [Cheerios are the easiest to use] from the breakfast bar on the ship that morning (REMOVE THE PLASTIC BAG AND DISPOSE OF IT ONBOARD) place the cereal into the box and bring it with you. this "fish food" will attract the fish to you, if you lose the box, it will biodegrade, just please LEAVE THE PLASTIC AT THE SHIP, we dont want anything trying to eat it

I did the cereal thing once and got yelled at. I was told its not healthy for the fish for one and two they become dependent on humans for food.

So, when they sell "fish food" on the snorkel boat the fish aren't dependent on humans?!?

This is an ongoing battle that will never be won. It is bad for the fish and they can get aggressive. I have heard of snorkelers being nipped at because of fish wanting the food. And these snorkel boats that sell the food are just as bad. However, nobody is forcing you to buy the food. And if enough people stopped buying the food, they would stop selling it.

So that makes it okay? Imagine if even a few snorkelers did that - what a mess that would be in the ocean. Multiply that by how many snorkel boats there are at each port each day. wow.

Sorry - didn't mean to hijack the OP's post. :(
