Shore time vs: Ship Time What Does This Mean

I have seen several posts about shore time vs. ship time and I just do not understand what they are talking about?

 

We are leaving the 29th on the Destiny and cruising to St. Thomas, Aruba, Dominica, Barbados and is there a difference in time????

 

Please clue me in and also what time prior to the ship departing do you need to be on board??

During this time of daylight savings time--some ports have a different time zone then the ships--- the western caribbean is good for that with some ports being 2 hours behind the ships time and others are 1 hours.

 

Always check your capers to find out what your ship is doing.

 

St thomas is one hour behind the ship.

Aruba & Barbados is the same as the ship

 

San Juan is on Eastern time since they do not recognize daylight savings time.

When making private tour arrangments knowing thistime is necessay.

Ship time is usually the local time of the ships home port. Shore time would refer to the local time of the port you are at. If your ship is on Eastern Daylight Time, an Island may be on Eastern Standard Time and off by an hour. Your Capers will provide the info for you.

 

You should be on board NLT 30 minutes befor departure.

Always stay on ship time. The ship will stay on whatever time it is in the port that it begins the cruise from. The local time for your ports of call may be different as others have said. Always keep your watch set to ship time and you will be fine.
