New Orleans Hotel Suggestions during Jazz Festival

Going on the Conquest 4/28/2013. We would like to stay in NO the Sat. before and the Sunday we get off the ship.

We are having a problem booking 4/28 because of the Jazz Festival. Right now we are booked at Quality Inn & Suites in Gretna for before & after cruise. They said we could take the Gretna Ferry to downtown NO.....guess what.....the Ferry is closed!

Has anyone stayed there and what transportation did you take to the French Quarter?

Any other hotel recommendations? First time in NO for the three of us.

The old ferry that went to Jackson Ave is closed. The other ferry that connects to Canal St is still in operation for pedestrians only. If you plan to go from the ferry landing to the cruise ships, it looks easy, but it's a real hassle with luggage. I would plan on a cab from the ferry landing to the ship, about $7-8. Good luck.

It is a wonderful ride across the Mississippi River. Go up to the top deck and enjoy the breeze. Stop by the Restaurants and take in the atmosphere. But do it when your not fumbling with luggage. Take a taxi from the hotel in Gretna to the Cruise Port when you are boarding and disembarking. That's alot less hassle and a better way to start your cruise!

The hotel in Gretna will shuttle us to the port. They also said they would take us to the ferry and back to the hotel.

When I looked up the ferry schedule from Gretna is said that it is closed. So that leaves us with a taxi into the French Quarter probably 2 times a day.

Maybe the shuttle will take you to the Algiers/Canal Street Ferry?

The Canal street ferry goes from Algiers Point to the foot of Canal Street which is the edge of the French Quarter. The Aquarium of the Americas is right there at the ferry landing and the scenic walk along the river to the heart of the French Quarter.
