Question about 1st night of kid/teen program on Explorer

Recommended Posts

My family and I (kids are 6 and 14) will be on the Explorer for a relative's wedding in June. I've read that the first night of the cruise the kids and teen programs have a "meet and greet" kind of open house function for the kids. We'll be having the wedding dinner at Portofino's that evening and I don't know that we'll be through in time for my kids to go to their respective programs. Does anyone whose been involved with these programs know what my kids will be missing? Will the counselors make an effort to help them meet the other kids the next day? My oldest tends to be a bit shy at first and I'm hoping that missing the first night won't make it too difficult to meet someone to pal around with.
