CruizenSuzen Posted May 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2005 It looks like our little tropical storm has decided to get stronger. I'm on the Caribbean Princess this weekend on the western track. Any speculation on what might happen?
spongerob Posted May 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Here is a link to the NOAA's Storm Prediction Center web site showing the current forecast for Adrian. The staff on board the ship will be aware of the situation and will make course and itinerary alterations as necessary to avoid the worst of the weather. CruizenSuzen Posted May 19, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted May 19, 2005 When do the changes usually come? Will we know before we board?
spongerob Posted May 19, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2005 You probably won't find out until you are aboard - assuming any changes are necessary that is. If the storm weakens as predicted and stays out of the way of any places you plan to visit, it might not be anything to worry about.
Pam in CA Posted May 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Hurricanes are very unpredictable so I doubt you'll hear of any changes until you board. The ship will try to stick to the itinerary as much as possible but if it looks like it isn't, that's when they'll make the changes.
CruizenSuzen Posted May 19, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted May 19, 2005 Thanks for your quick responses. I never thought I would be worrying about a Hurricane for a May cruise. But there's no controlling nature. :)
Kaye from Chicagoland Posted May 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2005 This is the most recent information I have gotten on the storm: Central America Public Announcement May 19, 2005 This Public Announcement is being issued to alert Americans to the potential dangers posed by Tropical Storm Adrian to the Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Nicaragua. This Public Announcement expires on May 31, 2005. Tropical Storm Adrian is intensifying off the Pacific coast of Central America and is expected to cause severe flooding with rainfall levels of 6 - 10 inches on the coastal areas and up to 20 inches in the mountains. Because of the increasing severity of the storm and the danger associated with it, American citizens living in or planning travel to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Nicaragua should monitor news reports of the storm's movement. U.S. citizens in Central America are urged to register and update their contact information at the nearest U.S. Embassy or through the Department of State's travel registration website at https://travelregistration.state.gov. For more country-specific security information, U.S. citizens planning to travel to or remaining in Central America despite this Public Announcement should consult the Department of State's country-specific Travel Warnings, Public Announcements, Consular Information Sheets, and the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, available on the Department of State's website at http://travel.state.gov. Updated information on travel and security in Central America may also be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States, or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444. Thanks Spongerob, That is a great web site to have on hand. My cruise isn't until July, so it nice to be able to follow what's happening.
