Dirkgun Posted October 10, 2012 #26 Share Posted October 10, 2012 Ok here is another question. How close is the pier from the airport? I am thinking we will have to take a taxi to the pier once we drop off our rental car. Anyone have any idea how much a taxi cost? Is there another way to get to the pier without taking a taxi? Taxis are regulated by zones and are pretty organized at the airport in San Juan. I believe it is $19 plus a $2 fuel surcharge from the airport to old san juan where the cruise piers are. That price would include up to 5 people (extra people are $2 extra) then add $1 per piece of luggage. (info from puerto rico day trips dot com) You can also take a bus but the website says luggage is not always allowed and it looks to be a pretty confusing bus route from the airport. I think it is over 8 miles so would take a very long time to walk. JMHO Taxis are the way to go.... no confusion and pretty cheap considering....time to value ratios :D
SailingDisney Posted October 11, 2012 #27 Share Posted October 11, 2012 We rented a car for a week and they drive "crazy". Fast on the right, slow on the left. Don't use your signal as it lets them know you are a tourist and they cut you off (well, not all of them). It is worth having a GPS (on your phone or bring one) if you plan on wandering away from SJ as the exits are hard to figure out and if you miss one..... How far from SJ are you staying? Just curious.... I love sailing from SJ. Be sure you're out on the deck so you can see the fort lit up as you pass it heading out. We actually rented an aparment in OSJ. I believe our GPS included Puerto Rico so we will bring it. Thanks for the tip on the fort being lit up...we would want to see that!!!:D
